Sweet 16 - and still unbeaten

First published in Football

LEAGUE leaders Lye Town stretched their unbeaten run to 16 games following a fabulous 4-3 win at Shropshire side Shawbury United.

Lye came from 3-2 down in the second half to seal a thrilling victory thanks to a hat-trick from striker Ricky Anslow.

But it was substitute Steve Weaver’s equaliser to make the score 3-3 that turned the game back in Lye’s favour.

Joint-manager Martin Thomas said: “He (Weaver) got in between two defenders to turn the ball home. It was a great goal because it got us back into the game”.

“It was an important victory. Had we lost, Shawbury could have got to within a point of us and I still believe they will be there or thereabouts.”

Lye will look to strengthen their lead further this week when Thomas and managerial partner Darren Goodall take on former club Shifnal Town at Stourbridge Road.

Lye still have Kalum Evitts, Steve Lodge and Rob Sheffield on the injury list but are hoping to add Sporting Khalsa midfield man Nathan Walker to their ranks, having previously been with Romulus.

Busy Lye are also on the lookout for a physio. Anyone interested should contact secretary Paul Roberts on 07429 887570.
