LEAGUE leaders Lye Town stretched their unbeaten run to 22 games after beating second placed Black Country Rangers 3-1 to win the West Midlands League match of the day.

It what proved a highly eventful affair, Rangers finished the game with nine players after Lee Pardoe and Jamie Hurdman were sent off when the scores were level at 1-1.

Although the first half was goalless, Lye looked to have taken the lead when Ben Wilkins was put clear but hit the post and the ball rebounded back out to Andy Mitchell, who made no mistake, only to have the goal ruled out for offside.

Lye eventually took the lead on 55 minutes when Matty Johnson crossed for Mitchell to convert from close range.

Nine minutes later, Rangers were back level when Phil McKerdy converted.

The game turned on it's head when Pardoe was sent off and matters soon worsened for Rangers when Hurdman was dismissed for bringing down striker Ricky Anslow when through on goal.

From the resulting free kick, Damien Whitcombe fired the ball into the Rangers defensive wall where it fell kindly for Anslow to convert on 80 minutes.

Four minutes later, Lye wrapped up the points when Anslow was again brought down and Whitcombe walloped home the resulting penalty.

ELSEWHERE Cradley Town clinched a 7-0 win over Wellington Amateurs to cement their top six placing.

Scott Devlin stole the show by netting four goals, Chris Bladen bagged two more after James Welnitchuk had opened the scoring.

Dudley Town remain amongst the leaders following their 2-1 win over Sporting Khalsa, Croatian striker Dreniz Bala bagging the oopening goal with Rion Francis-Mills supplying the second after leading marksman Liam Hughes had levelled for Khalsa.

Dudley Sports also snapped up a welcome win with a 2-0 success over Shifnal Town, Jack Hickman and new signing Daryl Charman on target.
