LYE Town lengthened their outstanding unbeaten West Midland League run to 25 games following an 8-0 demolition of Dudley Sports this week.

Ricky Anslow led the spree with a hat-trick, taking his league tally to 23 goals this term, closely followed by central defender Damien Whitcombe, who also converted for his 20th strike of the season.

Kalum Evitts, Ben Jevons and Steve Weaver also struck, while substitute Kevin Nickle converted to register Lye's 100th goal of the term.

Assistant boss Martin Thomas claimed: "Our unbeaten run is going to end sometime, but we're still in a situation where we can't afford to drop points.

"At the moment, we're just trying to rotate the squad, while keeping it at maximum strength".

Lye rang the changes last week and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Midland Combination side Atherstone in the Birmingham Floodlit Cup and Thomas admitted: "We allowed the standard to drop and it showed us areas where we still need to work upon".

Thomas revealed he was hoping to make a couple of new signings this week, adding: "It's important that we strengthen while we're winning. We've got a couple of seven day notices in and we'll see what happens".

Lye have no fixture this Saturday but take on Dudley Sports again in the League Cup on Tuesday.

That is followed by a clash with second placed Shawbury United on December 21, which could prove a defining game.
