Wyton unbeaten after first three games

GORNAL Athletic boss Andy Wyton has hailed the reaction of his players since he took charge of the Midland Alliance strugglers.

The former Dudley Town manager has now been at the helm for three games and managed to claim five points and remain unbeaten.

The 39-year-old continued to get a reaction from his players as they drew 1-1 away to Kirby Muxlow last Saturday.

It is a game the new boss feels his side deserved to win, and would have done if they had taken their chances.

"I think we had three or four good chances that we should have taken, said Wyton. "They then scored with their only real chance of the game."

The result makes it back-to-back draws for Gornal after they played out a goalless stalemate with bottom side Continental Star the previous weekend.

The hard fought points add to the three Wyton claimed with victory over Loughborough University during his first game in charge at the Garden Walk Stadium.

The new manager has been helped by 14 players that followed him from Dudley Town. However, he insists everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction and praised his squads determination.

"I have had to change the way that I play slightly due to the situation we are in," added Wyton. "I usually like to get the ball down and try to play, but have been deliberately more direct in recent games.

"The players have reacted well and have been very hard to beat, which should stand us in good stead. I know a lot of the players from my time Dudley and know what to expect from them."

Gornal now prepare to travel to Shepshed Dynamo this Saturday and Wyton thinks his team has a good chance of success.

"I think we go there with a real chance, especially if the players continue to perform the way they have been since I took charge.

"A win would set us up nicely for the following week's local derby with Tividale," he said.
