LYE Town boss Martin Thomas is keen for his title challengers to keep the pressure on their rivals.

A brilliant 7-0 home win over Willenhall on Saturday, which saw striker James Spray hit a hat-trick, was followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Casuals on Tuesday night.

Thomas said he thought his side were unlucky against Casuals and could have took all three points if they'd have got a few more decisions from the referee and taken their chances.

He said: "It was a very tough game but we still had the chances to win. Their goalkeeper played very well, we missed our chances and hit the post with others. On another day we would have won."

However, Thomas thinks a win this Saturday, when Lye travel to play Bustleholme, would help to keep the pressure on title rivals Shawbury United.

"The main thing now is that we get back to winning ways and keep that pressure on Shawbury," he added. "They have a tricky run-in, so it is important that we add pressure to those games by winning our own."

It could be a key weekend in the race for the West Midlands League crown, with second placed Shawbury taking on third placed Pegasus Juniors.

Lye could be without Nicky Pugh for the rest of the season after he dislocated his elbow towards the end of the game against Wolverhampton.

The game was delayed and finished late after the injury, which was suffered after Pugh went up for a high ball and landed awkwardly after being challenged in the air.
