Lye already preparing for next season after promotion joy

LYE Town chairman Brian Blakemore says plans are already being put in place for next season after the club secured promotion.

Work is already going on behind the scenes as Lye prepare for life in the Midland Alliance after bagging top spot in the West Midlands Premier League last week.

They added the league title to their cup success this campaign when beating Dudley Town 9-2 last Thursday in their last game of the season.

They earned promotion glory thanks to four goals from top scorer Ricky Anslow, a brace from fellow forward James Spray and other strikes from Matthew Johnson, Scott Moore and Steven Weaver.

The win secured promotion to the Midland Alliance and followed up last Tuesday’s victory in the final of the Worcestershire Senior Urn.

Blakemore is now looking forward to the club continuing its progression next season.

He said: "I have already sat down with the management team and discussed our plans going forwards. Our main aim is to keep this squad together and add two or three new signings.

"We have a fantastic team spirit so are hopeful that many will want to stay.

"We are looking forward to playing in the league above, it will be the highest level the club has ever played in. However, I don't think the gap between the two leagues is that great. I will be disappointed if we struggle.

"We want to do well, consolidate our position next season and then look to win it after that. We are ambitious and want to keep progressing.

"Everyone at the club is excited and looking forward to next season. Attendances have been up this year and that can only continue if we carry on playing football that is attractive to watch."

Lye's success came one year on from the cruel blow of losing the title on the last day of the season at Wolverhampton Casuals.
