ANDY Wyton wants his Gornal players to build on last Saturday's second half showing against Willenhall Town.

Athletic drew 2-2 in the opening away fixture of their West Midlands Premier Division campaign but had to come from behind after a disappointing first half.

The Peacocks boss was left frustrated by the performance but encouraged by the character shown to get back in the contest.

He said: "We were awful in the first half. I don't know if the players need more time to gel or if they were just nervous.

"You don't expect to have to shout at the players at half time at this stage of the season, but that's exactly what I had to do.

"We have had a good pre-season so I was surprised at how poor we were.

"However, we responded well and earned a good point in the end. We now need to build on that second half performance and take it into our next game."

Second half strikes from Rion Francis-Mill and Matthew Vaughan salvaged a point for the Peacocks.

Gornal were due to take on Ellesmere Rangers away last night before preparing for cup action against Westfields at Garden Walk this Saturday.

Their first home league game will see them welcome Wolverhampton Casuals next Tuesday.
