GORNAL picked up four West Midland Premier points last week – but boss Andy Wyton feels it should have been six.

Ahead of last night’s trip to Wellington Amateurs, Wyton lamented two dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Haughmond last Wednesday despite goals from Jason Wood and Scott Devlin.

“At the start you’d have to say we’d have been happy with a point and equalising four minutes into injury time you’d take, but it’s a game we should have won,” said Wyton.

“To be honest, we were awful in the first half – there were strong words at half-time. I told the lads if there is nothing in the bank there is nothing to take out, the same applies to work-rate.

“But to be fair they listened, and we looked a different side after the break. But we still shipped another goal.”

Athletic then enjoyed a 2-1 win over Shawbury United, although Wyton felt his side had made hard work of things.

“We should have been three up before they scored and against the Shawburys and Sporting Khalsas you can’t afford to miss your chances or they punish you.”

Goals from Dreniz Bala and Tony Piggot finally sealed the win and Rich Kennedy made a vital penalty save.

“Things are going well, they could be better but all teams will say that. We are four unbeaten though and starting to put a good run together,” added Wyton.

Craig Stevens is the only injury concern ahead of the derby at Dudley Town on Saturday.
