Robins ready for keeper change
4:10pm Thursday 14th June 2012 in Football
DUDLEY Town boss Andy Burgess believes he already has the ideal replacement for keeper James Trevalen.
The stopper, last season’s club captain, is poised to leave the Robins as he mulls over offers from Tividale, Gornal Athletic and Bewdley Town.
Burgess has moved swiftly to find someone to fill the gloves by bringing in Aaron O’Malley from Trysull Tigers — a player of whom he has been a long time admirer.
He said: “Aaron has been on my radar for some time. He used to be at Lye Town and he also had a spell as a trainee at Bradford City, so he has good experience.
“I tried to bring him in at the start of last season but he wanted another season at Trysull.
“He’s very keen to improve his game and test himself at a higher level, which is very encouraging.”
Burgess has also drafted in attacking midfielder Adam Collinswood from Wombourne and is hopeful of making six or seven other signings in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, he has confirmed Danny Ludlow will be taking over from Trevalan as club skipper ahead of this weekend’s training session.
He said: “Danny has vast experience and was captain of Cradley Town before he moved here and I’m aware of his abilities as a leader.
“His performances last season were outstanding and I’m sure the extra responsibility is something he thrives on.
“He wants the captaincy and that’s an important thing. There are some players who can’t deal with the pressure but Danny is not one of those.”
n The Robins will play host to a European Cup-winning legend on Saturday night. Former Liverpool star Alan Kennedy is the main guest of the club’s Sportsman’s Evening at Gornal Royal British Legion.
The evening also features comedy from Lea Roberts, with tickets priced at £20 available from club chairman Steve Austin on 07412 046050.
