Jephcott nears Tivi exit door

DEAN Whitehouse admits Tividale face a fight to hold onto midfielder Avun Jephcott.
The former Leamington and Stratford Town star has been in fine form since arriving at Packwood Road over the summer but is the subject of a seven-day approach from Southern League Premier side Redditch United.
Jephcott has been on training with the Reds and played in their 4-1 Southern League Cup defeat at Stourbridge on Tuesday.
Whitehouse is unsure as to what the player will decide.
He said: “Avun has been fantastic for us this season but money talks.
“When you have decent players, people want them.
“On the plus side we have striker Kyle Brady coming back after his holiday while Billy Russell and Matt Jukes are starting to find their match fitness.”
Brady was in the squad for last night’s trip to Coventry Sphinx, as Tivi looked to build on Saturday’s 7-0 hammering of Studley.
Whitehouse believes there was no big secret behind the performance.
He said: “We simply took our chances, which is what we’ve failed to do too often this season.
“We’ve been all over teams for the first 40 minutes of games, not scored and ended up paying the price. Hopefully we’ve turned a corner.”
Tivi travel to Continental Star on Saturday and have been drawn away to Nottinghamshire outfit Sutton Town AFC in the FA Vase second round. Whitehouse’s side were awarded a bye to this stage of the competition following their progress to the last 16 last term.
Gornal’s reward for their 3-1 win away at Lye Town in Saturday’s first round is a trip to fellow Midland Alliance side Coventry Sphinx.
The Peacocks played the majority of the game against 10 men after Lye’s Ian Millward was shown a straight red card in the 17th minute.
Chris Poyntz put Lye ahead nine minutes before the break but Calum Martin levelled almost immediately.
Goals in the second-half from Pete Wood and Matt Weyman sealed the win for Gornal, who travel to second placed Stourport Swifts this Saturday.
