New Yeltz chief aims high

Halesowen Town have the potential to attain league status according to the club’s new chairman.

Dozens of supporters packed into the club’s Yeltz bar last night as new chief Martin Kearns was unveiled at a fans forum also attended by manager Morell Maison and president Nigel Pitt.

The 42-year-old Kearns, who works as operations manager for London-based Titua Finance, explained the potential at the club had persuaded him to take up the new role - his first in football.

Kearns said: “The one thing that really sold it to me was the potential of the club - it could be limitless.

“The aim has to be to get into the Conference in two years and then push on from there.

“Realistically we have to take one step at a time, we can’t overstretch ourselves.

“There are clubs in League One or Two who are poorly structured financially - we don’t want to be like that.”

Fans were told Maison remains the major shareholder at the club, while Kearns will be tasked with finding investment to aid development on and off the pitch.

Kearns said he was not fazed about being the only chairman in the league who could be sacked by his manager and believes Maison’s drive and determination will be a big factor in the club achieving its goals.

He added: “The difference with this club is you can sense there is a momentum building, you can feel the ambition.

“When you have got Morell and his vision and the way the team plays, the football is good to watch.

“Everyone is moving in the right direction. Other club’s have similar aspirations but they don’t have Morell’s vision and desire.”

Maison also allayed fears over the club’s financial situation, revealing more than £50,000 had been brought in from sponsorship deals during the last two months.

He said a further deal for six-figure investment was also on the verge of completion.

Maison said: “The situation here has been absolutely superb in meeting sponsors’ interests.

“We are not carrying any debt. What we have been bringing in has been phenomenal.”
