Brookes hails "brilliant" Haseley

CARETAKER boss Colin Brookes has hailed Halesowen Town’s “brilliant” goalscoring hero Ben Haseley.

The hitman struck all four goals as the Yeltz beat Biggleswade Town 4-1 in the FA Trophy preliminary round replay on Tuesday night, making it five in total for the tie as he also scored in Saturday’s 2-2 draw.

Brookes was delighted with the team’s all round performance.

He said: “For about half-an-hour on Tuesday Ben looked like he would not be able to hit a barn door but that’s what great goalscorers are like.

“It’s not just the goals he scores but his workrate too. He holds the ball up really well.

“It was a really committed performance, we didn’t half work hard and chased them down every chance you got.

“This time last week I was a little bit concerned about the reaction we would get from the players.

“I have been impressed with the way they have responded.

“The team seems full of energy.”

The Yeltz will be without Jean Michel Gueyes for Saturday’s trip to Brigg Town but he should return for Monday night’s trip to Romulus.

Meanwhile, Spencer Blackham and Richard Huckfield have been sent out on loan to Tividale and Tipton Town respectively.

Brookes, who is also club chairman, revealed they have received a total of 20 applications for the vacant managerial post since Shaun Cunnington’s resignation last week.

He and owner Steve Lynch were set to sit down yesterday to draw up a shortlist.

Interviews will then take place early next week with the view to an appointment being announced by the end of the month.
