SHAUN Cunnington says Halesowen Town must move on after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Dudley Town.
The Yeltz exited the compettion to lower league opposition for the second straight year as they were stunned 2-1 at home by the West Midlands Premier League side last Saturday - costing them the chance of a lucrative cup run.
Cunnington admitted to being “extremely disappointed” for everyone at the club but says they cannot afford to dwell on the result.
He said: “We had the opposrtunities to get something out of the game and on another day Ben Haseley would have scored a hat-trick.
“That’s not taking anything away from what Dudley Town did.
“That is the FA Cup, it brings up shock results. It has done it for many years and it will do it for years to come.
“From our point of view we cannot affect what happened.
“We have got to look forward to the games coming up.”
Cunnington was pleased at how his players responded to the cup exit by beating Sutton Coldfield Town 2-1 in the Northern League Division One South on Monday.
Haseley scored twice, bagging the winner three minutes from time while the game also saw a switch to a 4-4-2 formation, with Warren Brookes and Jean Michel Gueyes coming in for Nathan Jones and John Griffin.
Cunnington said: “The switch in formation made us a bit more solid but it is not formations which win football matches, it’s the people on the pitch.
“The players who came in on Monday took their opportunity and I felt we deserved the win. We are only three games into the season and there are a lot of improvements to be made.
“We have players who can create a lot of chances and if we can stop the silly lapses at the back, we will be in good stead.
“I’m well aware of the expectations at this club and what it’s done in the past.
“We are working tremendously hard to get it back.”
Defender Brendan Kelly misses Saturday’s trip to Carlton Town through suspension and midfielder Ben Steane is also unavailable. The Yeltz then host Coalville Town on Tuesday night.
