SHAUN Cunnington is hopeful of bringing fans’ favourite Henry Eze back to Halesowen Town.

The big defender proved a huge hit with supporters during the 2009/10 season thanks to his unorthodox style and occasional long-range screamers.

Versatile Eze, who can also play in midfield, finished last season at Evesham United but started for the Yeltz in their 2-0 friendly win at Bartley Green on Tuesday night.

Cunnington said: “There is no doubt Henry is a really talented player and we are really keen on bringing him back to the club.

“He is a massive presence both on and off the field and we are hopeful of getting a deal done.”

Cunnington fielded two different starting XI’s in each half as the Yeltz played one of the few friendly fixtures to survive the miserable weather.

Former Shrewsbury Town striker Dan Evans, who scored more than 30 goals in the Kidderminster League last season and signed for Halesowen earlier this week, completed the scoring after Reece Cotterill got the opener from the penalty spot.

Ben Steane, Chris Seekings and former Tipton Town man Warren Brookes also got their first run outs for the club.

Cunnington was happy with the performance and also praised the groundstaff at Bartley Green for getting the game on.

He added: “They deserve great credit for their efforts. They gave us a chance to play and run the rule over a number of players.

“I thought Dan Evans did really well. He certainly has his passion for the game back and he is someone who could do very well for us.

“There is a really good atmosphere building at the club.

“Hopefully we can stave off the weather and get all our pre-season games played.”

The Yeltz are scheduled to face Redditch United this Saturday at Great Wyrley FC, with the same venue hosting Tuesday night’s clash with Bromsgrove Sporting.

Meanwhile, fans or local businesses could get their name on the back of this season’s Halesowen Town shirt.

For £50, groups or individuals can get their name entered into a prize draw, with the winner emblazoned across the back of the strip all season.

The deadlined for entry is August 10, with the draw taking place on August 11, before the home friendly with Stourbridge.
