HALESOWEN Town made it eight wins from 10 starts with a 1-0 win at Sutton Coldfield Town this week, a result that takes them to within one point of Northern Premier Division One South leaders Leek Town.

Joe Hull converted the only goal of the game before Sutton had former Yeltz player Scott Lycett and Lee Parsons sent off in the closing stages, while manager Neil Tooth was sent to the stands

Victory was all the more commendable as Sutton play on a 3G pitch, but the Yeltz were well prepared, having beaten Romulus on the same pitch five days earlier

Yeltz boss John Hill refused to get excited and claimed:

“I’ve got a very genuine set of lads playing for me this season, but I’m not getting carried away. The league’s so tight that within three or four games you could be right back out of it again.

“Leek are a very good side, the only team that I could say have properly beaten us this season, but we’re only halfway and I believe Scarborough will be a danger. Keep an eye on them as they’re coming up on the rails.

The Yeltz look to keep their charge going this week when they entertain Sheffield FC, who lay claim to being the oldest club in the country.

Leading marksman Ben Haseley remains sidelined while striker partner Iyesden Christie is doubtful with a damaged hand.

CAUSEWAY United crashed 3-2 at home to Heather St John and slipped back to seventh spot in the Midland Alliance as a result.

Will Tibbetts fired Causeway into a seventh-minute lead and then struck a second goal to make the score 2-2.

Causeway boss Andy Mole said: “I thought we would go on to win the game from that point, but Heather ground us down. “They are a good side and have quite a number of former Gresley players on their books.

“Aaran Lloyd, Sam Beasley and Danny Priest all had chances, but we didn’t take them and we need to start pulling our socks up.

Causeway travel to Tipton Town this Saturday where manager Mole is set to parade new signing Ryan Whittaker, a central defender from Stourport Swifts.

CRADLEY Town came unstuck this week when they lost 3-0 at Pegasus Sports in the West Midlands League.

Cradley finally crashed to the league’s most lethal partnership of Cory Hyde and Chris Mortlock, who between them have netted 46 goals already this term.

Mortlock managed to net twice while Hyde hit the third, taking his league tally to 27 goals this term.

More disconcerting for Cradley was the fact that Pegasus have pulled eight points clear of them as a result Cradley attempt to get back into the top six this Saturday when they entertain Malvern Town at Beeches View.
