CAUSEWAY United climbed to fifth place in the Midland Alliance this week after pulling off a couple of cracking victories.

Andy Mole’s men were comfortable 4-2 winners over Coventry Sphinx last Saturday, where Arran Lloyd’s hat-trick proved the highlight., while Stourbridge loan Sam Rock struck the fourth goal.

But they followed up with a fabulous 4-2 result against top-of-the-table Quorn on Tuesday that left manager Mole drooling over the success.

Mole admitted: “It was quite a game – Quorn hit us like a house on fire and took the lead after just 20 seconds!

“For the next 20 minutes after that, it really was a backs-to-the-wall job. But we slowly worked our way into the game and finally levelled when new signing from Gornal Athletic Ben Evans scored with a solo effort.

“He then set up Arran Lloyd for a second goal – and that seemed to stun Quorn for a bit”.

However, all Causeway’s good work came undone when they had Alex Cowley sent off for a reckless challenge. Quorn made Causeway pay when they scored from the resulting free kick, courtesy of an own goal from Daz Whitley.

Mole admitted: “We were back under the cosh again at that point.”

But newboy Evans created the opening for Lloyd to lash home his second goal before Evans sealed an excellent display by smashing home an absolute screamer to seal victory.

Quorn were also reduced to 10 men, but Mole insisted: “It was Ben’s goal that really knocked the stuffing out of them. “I actually think their sending off was a bit harsh – but it must have been something that was said.”

Causeway were trying to arrange a friendly with Wolves Casuals this Saturday as they have no fixture.

They return to Midland Alliance action on Tuesday when they entertain Heath Hayes at The Grove.

Mole was able to give Jack Pearlman half an hour against Quorn, while another new arrival, Rion Francis-Mills, featured following his capture from Dudley Town.
