HALESOWEN Town’s chairman is calling for everyone at the club to embrace what could be a crucial period for the team’s chances of success this season.

Chairman Colin Brookes believes the month ahead could well shape where the Yeltz will end up this campaign.

After playing out a 0-0 draw against form team Chasetown last weekend, Halesowen now face a host of teams fighting at the top of the Northern Premier League Division One South table.

Local rivals Chasetown provided a stern test in the first game at The Grove for five weeks. Both sides created chances in an entertaining contest, but it was the defences that ended on top.

As early as the fifth minute, Ben Haseley struck the Chasetown side netting from a rebound after goalkeeper Ryan Price made a fine save to keep out Iyseden Christie’s header from Tom Tonks’ long throw.

The Scholars went close to breaking the deadlock on the hour mark when a free-kick from the right bounced around in the six-yard box and Robinson fired over the bar from close range at the end of the scramble.

After the Yeltz failed to find the breakthrough, their defence held firm from two dangerous Chasetown free-kicks at the end of the match.

“It was a good game that could have gone either way,” said Brookes.

“It was anything but a dull 0-0 and it might prove to be a good point against a Chasetown side that is on a good run.”

Next up is fourth placed Leek Town this Saturday before manager John Hill takes his side to current leaders Coalville Town and then welcomes third placed Belper Town to The Grove.

“This next month could very well tell you where we will finish in the league,” said Brookes. “It is great for the club and it’s a very positive place to be at the moment.

“You get involved in football to be part of games like this.

“It is a very exciting time for the club and, should we get some good results from the next series of fixtures, it could really set us up for an interesting run-in,” he added.

He also said the fans have played a key role in helping the Yeltz.

“The fans have been great and have really embraced how we have been performing,” said Brookes.
