Hill has no complaints as Yeltz lose to leaders

HALESOWEN Town boss John Hill had no complaints this week after watching his Yeltz side go out of the FA Trophy and then lose convincingly to league leaders Leek Town.

The Yeltz lost interest in the Trophy after suffering a 3-1 reverse at home to Southern League Premier side St Neots Town - writes Nick Pullen.

Hill claimed: “St Neots were the better side, but we had most chances. We created two golden opportunities when the score was still 0-0 but didn’t take them and it’s all about taking chances.

“St Neots were a well organised side and had a striker in Jake Woolley who was on loan from Luton Town, so it showed the calibre of opposition we were up against”.

The Yeltz were given a reality check at Leek Town on Tuesday after losing 4-1.

Hill said: “I fancied them to win the title before the start of the season. They are a very good side and my opinion that they will win the title, has only been strengthened.

“We stifled them for the first half hour - that was the plan. However, we have some very young players in our squad and I thought we gave a very niave performance”.

Hill was upset that Nigel Penney was sent off with 15 minutes remaining and insisted: “I was right in line and it wasn’t the two-footed tackle that was suggested. The referee had earlier let a far worse tackle go unpunished so there was no consistency. But that said, the dismissal had no bearing on the result”.

Neil MacKenzie netted a late consolation goal at Leek with a 25 yard special, while Joe Hull headed home Elliott Turner’s 87th minute corner against St Neots, when the Yeltz were already trailing 3-0.

Halesowen hope to bounce back this Saturday when they host Goole Town at the Grove when striker Iyesden Christie and midfield man Chris Lait are unlikely to feature.

The Yeltz play host to Wolves next Tuesday night in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Admission to this game has been reduced to £5 and £3 concessions, while children under 12 years old are admitted for free
