HALESOWEN Town are holding their breath after star striker Ben Haseley suffered a serious injury during the second half of their game against Kidsgrove Athletic - writes Nick Pullen

Haseley had already hammered home his 22nd goal of the season in the first-half and was looking to add to that total when attempting to charge down a clearence kick from Kidsgrove goalkeeper Danny Read.

Yeltz boss John Hill revealed: “The ball struck him in the eye and he was in trouble straightaway. “He went to hospital and has no vision in the eye whatsoever and when I spoke to him on Tuesday night he still could not see through that eye.

“Even though we won the game 2-0, the injury to Ben put a dampner on the whole night.

“To make matters worse, he gets married this Saturday and we’re all hoping and preying he’ll be alright.

“When things like this happen, it puts everything else into perspective.”

Following last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Rainworth Miners Welfare, Hill rang the changes, bringing in goalkeeper Matt Sargeant plus former Coventry City striker Avun Jephcott.

It was Jephcott who set up the second goal when crossing for Tom Tonks to thunder home just after the hour mark.

Hill confirmed he tried to sign Jephcott the previous season, but the striker opted to remain with Tividale before moving to Chasetown.

Goalkeeper Sargeant has joined from Skrill North side Worcester City played for Hill when he was in charge of Tipton Town.

Hill will now speak with his other goalkeepers Paul Evans and Sam Pearson later in the week.

Hill also claimed he tried to sign another striker this week, but the deal fell through.

Halesowen have climbed to third place as a result of their victories over Rainworth and Kidsgrove.

They travel to Newcastle Town on Saturday where Hill will be without injury victims Chris Lait, Jean Michel Gueyes and Iyesden Christie in addition to Haseley.

Hill could well include youth team striker Danny Waldron in his line-up after the youngster featured against Kidsgrove.
