ANOTHER year is coming to a close which means it’s time to choose the Halesowen News Sports Personality of 2012.

Over the past few weeks we have been inviting your nominations and now the results are in, it’s time to cast your vote on our online poll.

Unsurprisingly, this year’s poll has a distinct Olympic and Paralympic flavour.

Our first nomination is Earls Gymnastics star Kristian Thomas.

The down-to-earth 23-year-old helped capture the imagination of the nation as he anchored the British men’s team to an historic bronze medal at London 2012.

Thomas, who has trained at the Earls since the age of five, went on to finish seventh in the individual competition, while also competing in the vault final.

Next up is another bronze medallist in the shape of wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley.

The 21-year-old has long been one of the nation’s leading players and helped make history with doubles partner Lucy Shuker when they became the first British women to win a Paralympic medal in the sport.

Whiley and Shuker enjoyed another landmark moment earlier in the summer, when they reached the Wimbledon final.

Another medallist and our third nominee is para-cycling ace Helen Scott.

Able-bodied Scott was the sighted pilot for Aileen McGlynn as the duo claimed silver in the tandem one-kilometre time trial, before taking a bronze in the three-kilometre pursuit.

The Halesowen Cycling Club member and McGlynn also won three silver medals at February’s world championships.

Our final nominee does not have a medal but will hope to get his hands on a prestigious belt early in the new year.

Rowley Regis welterweight Jason Welborn’s eye-catching performances have earned him a shot at British champion Frankie Gavin.

The 26-year-old stopped James Flinn and Scott Haywood inside five rounds while defending his Midland title.
