Kings fall again

KINGSWINFORD Hockey Club’s season continued to peter out with a 5-2 defeat at home to Wednesbury.

After last week’s 4-3 reverse to Market Drayton had ended any hopes of promotion, Kings fielded a younger side as they begin to build for next year.

The visitors took the lead inside the opening five minutes and scored twice more to lead 3-0 at the break.

A strike from skipper Ajay Sandhu gave the hosts some hope early in the second period.

But a superb strike restored Wednesbury’s advantage and even though Sam George scored again for Kings the visitors grabbed a fifth.

The seconds beat their Wednesbury counterparts 7-4 thanks to a Colin Morris hat-trick.

Kings took the lead through two Billy Jawanda two short corners and Morris then got his first before Wednesbury netted twice before the break.

Morris scored twice to restore Kings’ three goal cushion in the second period, only for Wednesbury to quickly pull it back to 5-4 with two quickfire strikes of their own.

However, the hosts were not to be denied and Lubby Ram’s goal from an acute angle gave them breathing space before he set up Sarj Takhar to seal it late on.
