Dartmouth's batsmen can't 'dodge' the issue
5:10pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Local Sport
UNSUNG Himley hero Jamie Harris hit the heights with a stunning display of strike bowling to help the Stourbridge Road side overwhelm West Bromwich Dartmouth by nine wickets in Birmingham League Premier Division.
Harris unleashed a devastating spell to rip the heart out of Dartmouth’s batting by taking 4-24 from 17 overs, which included nine maidens.
Fellow strike bowler Danny Smith got into the act by taking 2-38, while Stuart Wedge (3-36) and off-spinner Ryan Brown (1-9) mopped up the tail to skittle Dartmouth for 118.
Himley skipper Greg Wright said: “I kept Dodge (Harris) on for longer in the hope he’d get his first Birmingham League five-for.
“Sometimes he’s bowled better than his figures have suggested because he’s picked up wickets for other people.
“We’ve been threatening to run through a side for sometime now and I’m really pleased for Dodge. “He’s one of the most committed players I’ve come across and we’re all proud of him.
“He’s a product of our youth system and he’s progressed each year. “Dodge is one of a number of young players coming through at Himley and I’ve a great deal of faith in these young guys.”
There was still the small matter of knocking off Dartmouth’s total and that fell to another of the club’s young guns Tom Kohler-Cadmore who cracked an unbeaten 82, while former Worcestershire captain Ben Smith kept him company on 34 not out as Himley reached their target in 27.3 overs.
With a trip to Walsall this Saturday, Wright said: “We’ve not done ourselves justice against them recently but we’re going there full of confidence.”
Floodlit Twenty20 cricket takes place at Himley next week when they take on Black Country rivals Stourbridge, Wolverhampton and Brewood.
Two matches will be taking place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 5.30pm with the final set for Friday, starting at 6.30pm.
On Thursday evening. the Staffordshire Club Championship representative side will take on the Worcestershire League XI.
