TWENTY-TWO ladies enjoyed an ace day in glorious autumn sunshine - battling it out in Wollaston Lawn Tennis Club’s women’s open tournament.
Eleven pairs - from Wollaston, Stourbridge, Wall Heath and Cutnall Green tennis clubs - took part in the event.
They were split into two groups - one of five pairs and the other of six - with the winners of each slogging it out in the final.
And the tournament champions, after a close-fought final, were Helen Walker and Liz Johnson, from Stourbridge Tennis Club.
They beat Anita Shinton - who plays for both Wollaston and Wall Heath - and her Wall Heath partner Caroline Trinham 6-5 in the short-set final.
Organiser Pauline Clutterbuck said: “We used to have an annual ladies’ open tournament but, for various reasons, we had not run it for several years.
“We were delighted to have such a good turnout for our first revival of the event - and hope it may now become an annual fixture once again.”
Mrs Clutterbuck’s husband, Vincent, stepped in to run the order of play and present the prizes.
