OLD Hales overcame Sutton in great style at Wassell Grove with an excellent all round team performance to win 29-10.

The home side came out of the blocks at full pace last Saturday and immediately started to put pressure on Sutton with driving runs from skipper Rich Taylor, Tom Dempsey, Pete Fitzgerald and stand in centre Loz Breese.

However, the half time score was 10-10 after Sutton took advantage of a Steve Powell yellow to level just before the break.

After weathering a second half storm, Hales' Breese made a telling break through the Sutton defence before offloading to the supporting Fitzgerald to go over. Hooper converted to make the lead 17-10.

A brilliant individual try from full back Hooper and another fromNathan Jones wrapped up the win.

Team manager Simon Hussey said; "We deserved the result, which shows we have the players and ability to compete at the top end of the league. We now need to be consistent in our performance going forward."

They will take on Peterborough away this Saturday.
