STOURBRIDGE director of rugby Neil Mitchell says he will be looking to bring in short-term additions to help ease the club's injury crisis.

Stour slumped to their second successive defeat with an ill-disciplined display at Huddersfield last Saturday.

Their task was made even harder due to the amount of players currently on the treatment table at Stourton Park.

There are around 12 first team members currently suffering from an array of injuries.

Mitchell said: "We still have a big problem that doesn't look like it will resolve itself. We get one back and lose two more.

"I'm going to be looking to bring in some new additions to help us in the short term and will be making more and more calls as the weekend approaches."

However, he refused to blame the injury crisis for Saturday's defeat, instead highlighting his side's poor discipline as the reason for their downfall.

"It was a very poor performance from us," he added. "It was our ill-discipline that cost us and the players need to understand that they can't get on the wrong side of the referee, he's not going to change his mind."

Despite dominating the scrum against Hudderfield, it was Stour's back-chat that held them back.

But they duly took the lead when number eight Drew Harper picked up from the base of a scrum and forced his way over for a try which fly half Gareth Bown converted.

Huddersfield cut the deficit with a penalty from Joel Hinchcliffe to trail 7-3 at half time.

But this was another situation when Stour failed to press home the advantage when on top - especially when Huddersfield went down to 14 men courtesy of a yellow card.

Too often, Stour wasted possession with poor handling and repeated knock-ons.

A turning point arrived when Stour lost their England Counties tight head prop Mark George through injury.

Stour lost their edge in the scrums from that point and despite laying siege to Hudderfield's line at times, were unable to make the breakthrough.

They were denied a possible penalty try and had another possible try ruled out when penalised for coming in at the side.

The inevitable happened when Huddersfield broke clear and kicked into the corner.

They then stole Stour's line-out ball before shoving replacement forward Richard Brown over the line for a match-winning try which Hinchcliffe improved upon.

Stour will now welcome Caldy to Stourton Park this Saturday as they look to get their season back on track.

"There will be a lot of soul searching before this weekend," said Mitchell. "We need to make sure we respond in the right way.

"We must get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

"I can't drop players for ill-discipline because of our current injury problems, which means those available need to learn quickly and put it right themselves for Saturday."
