STOURBRIDGE Tennis Club's Ladies A Team achieved a magnificent double by becoming champions of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Division One League for both the summer and winter seasons.

Club captain Diane Davies said: "We are all very proud of our A team and congratulate Dee Smith for guiding her team to the top once again."

"Having completed four successful seasons, Dee has now handed over the captaincy to Charlotte Lines. We have talent galore at Stourbridge with youngsters such as Ellie Griffiths, who is number five nationally in U16’s and number five in the U18’s, Abbie Jade Riley, her younger sister Chloe, Amy Basford and Katie Eaton."

Meanwhile, Stourbridge Lawn Tennis and Squash Club hosted the Worcestershire Racketball County Closed event on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21.

This event was for participants eligible by being resident or born in Worcestershire or a member of a Worcestershire affiliated club.

Racketball came from the US in the late 70s and is played on squash courts but differs to squash in that the racket has a short handle and the ball is larger.

A good crowd gathered for the weekend play and witnessed great skill and stamina in all categories.

The men's open winner was Matt Jones and the ladies open winner was Maxine Goodhead.

The other winners were Andy Hart in the Men's over 40s, Ian Hughes in the over 50s, Ian Garvey in the over 60s and Plate winner Tom Peskett.

Due to the success of this tournament it is hoped this event will continue next year.

Anyone who wishes to try out racketball or squash as a sport can contact the club on 01384 393613.
