Athletes from Dudley Kingswinford Running Club were in the prizes last weekend.

The weekend started with Apley Races on Saturday, a series of three races over 5k, 10k and 21k organised by Black Country Triathletes and staged for the third year through the grounds of the Apley Estate, near Shifnal.

There were some stand out performances over a tough, hilly course along farm tracks, dirt roads and across fields with the blue hoops leaving with a clutch of prizes.

Kevin Duckworth, despite suffering from illness, came third in the 5k in 24.19, Steve Wood took fifth in the 10k in 48.19 but claimed first prize in his age group.

Dave Norman was third overall in the 21k in 1.43.11, John Andrews was 47th in 2.25.38 and Sally McConville claimed an age group third in 2.40.20.

Unfortunately, Paul Richards, the other club member entered, was forced to pull out due to illness.

On Sunday, Helen Tromans bagged a podium place by finishing in 52.50 to take the third woman prize in the Brown Clee Burn. The 10k race was advertised as a tough, multi terrain run with something for everyone, steep technical climbs, long descents and amazing views over Shropshire and the Welsh Borders. With the first mile, a calf mashing uphill towards what feels like the top of the world followed by some sweeping down hills the organisers certainly fulfilled their promise.
