DUDLEY Kingswinford need to cut out individual errors if they are to progress, says director of rugby Carl Douglas.

DK failed to build on their first win of the season when losing to Sutton Coldfield last Saturday.

The previous weekend saw them claim their first success in 38 league games when facing Burton at Heathbrook.

However, unforced errors away at Sutton prevented them from continuing Douglas' rebuilding job following last season's relegation.

"Of all the matches this season, this was the most disappointing," said Douglas.

"We started the game really well but then went into our shells after conceding quick tries.

"I didn't expect that to happen, especially after last week's win and the positive feeling around the squad. It felt like we'd take one step forward and two steps back.

"We need to make sure we continue to work really hard on the basics.

"A lot of their scores were down to us and our unforced errors and that can't keep happening.

Against Sutton, DK soaked up intense pressure in the first ten minutes before opening their account with a fine try.

Following resolute defence in the early exchanges, DK secured possession and in the 13th minute following excellent retention and the ball being recycled on numerous occasions, an overlap was created for Nick Adams to run in unopposed. Unfortunately, Kieron Pinches was unable to convert.

However, this purple patch only flattered to deceive as the home side took control and ran in three converted tries in the space of seven minutes.

Then, just before the break, the home side won a DK lineout and Faser Tait crossed for his second try.

The second half continued in the same vein. Although DK’s effort could not be faulted, their first line tackling remained a problem. However, it was DK who opened the scoring when Nick Adams intercepted and raced 60 meters to score. Unfortunately he was unable to add the additional points after taking over the kicking duties with Kieron Pinches being off the field.

This score was scant consolation as Sutton Coldfield ran in a further three tries through Sean Harrison, Josh Rolls and Tom McNamme, Alex White being successful with two of the conversions.

"We need to keep working hard because we are a young team and people shouldn't forget that," added Douglas.

"We know we are capable of reaching higher levels of performance because we showed that in pre-season. However, we have only seen glimpses of that since the season started, and that needs to change."

Douglas also admitted that he was thinking about ringing the changes ahead of this Saturday's visit of Hinkley as he looks to hit on the correct balance for the side.
