Dudley Kingswinford 5, Bromsgrove 42

DUDLEY Kingswinford slipped further towards back-to-back relegations as they were convincingly put to the sword by Bromsgrove.

Despite demonstrating improved defensive play on occasions, DK's poor passing and inability to match Bromsgrove at the breakdown eventually told.

In fact, time and time again today's visitors to Heathbrook passed up opportunities to rack up an even great score as the game drew on.

However, DK did start the contest well and will be heartened by how they handled a side that was on the hunt for their eighth straight victory.

Early home pressure saw most of the first ten minutes played in the Bromsgrove half.

When the visitors did attack the DK defence held firm, most notably in the eighth minute when Peter Knight ripped the ball free following a Boars catch and drive near the try line.

He handed to Nick Adams who was able to kick and chase all the way to the opposition line.

But such encouraging moments were few and far between and Bromsgrove eventually opened the scoring on 19 minutes following a loose kick straight up into the air from Kieran Pinches.

James Lloyd Jones collected and broke the line before offloading to Jonathan Critchlow to score. Critchlow then stepped up to add the extras himself.

Soon after, DK were reduced to 13 men when both Knight and Russell Gauden received yellow cards within four minutes of each other.

Bromsgrove didn't take long to make their numerical advantage count.

A catch and drive in the 32nd minute was eventually worked out to the left for Oliver Bache to go over. Again Critchlow converted to make it 14-0 at the break.

It could have been more but a knock on and then a forward pass saw Bromsgrove pulled up with the try line begging on both occasions.

However, it took only two minutes of the second half for things to get worse for DK.

They were shoved off their own scrum in front of their line for Phillip Horton to collect and crash over. Critchlow again added two points to make it 21-0.

DK showed real heart to come fighting back after the early setback and were rewarded when Liam Marshall went over in the 46th minute.

A quick tap and go from Pinches was worked to Marshall on the right and he was driven over by supporting DK numbers.

But, just three minutes later, Bromsgrove reasserted their dominance as the powerful running of Thomas Hunt saw him though to score.

He went through five missed tackles to touch down under the posts.

Even when Bromsgrove's Jon Malings saw yellow in the 52nd minute, the hosts couldn't take advantage.

Ultimately, Hunt's score, as well as two late tries from David Lewis, all of which were converted by the reliable boot of Critchlow, highlighted DK's troubles this campaign.

Each time Bromsgrove capitalised from individual errors, be it a loose kick, a loss of possession or missed tackles.

Once again, a bright DK start and positive periods of play were just not enough.
