GARY Hackett is targeting back-to-back wins as Stourbridge again look to push themselves towards the play-off picture.

The Glassboys bagged a much-needed 3-2 away victory at Stamford last Saturday after previously picking up just three points from a possible 12 since the turn of the year.

Manager Hackett now wants his players follow up with another three points when Matlock Town visit the War Memorial Ground this Saturday.

Another win would give the Glassboys a big lift in a season that has so far seen successive league victories few and far between.

Hackett said: "We have been very inconsistent all season and must now put that right. A win against Matlock would be a step in the right direction.

"The win against Stamford was much-needed but there were still some areas for improvement.

"We have had to make a few changes recently and have new players in the team as well. It will take time for them to gel together.

"However, the work-rate and determination was all there and it was very encouraging at times.

"Our aim now is to find a settled side and consistent performances.

"If I have to take one step backwards to make two steps forward, I will."

Against Stamford, Stourbridge battled to a narrow win despite letting a two-goal lead slip before half time.

The Glassboys made a strong start to the game, taking a fourth minute lead through Kayelden Brown. The home defence failed to deal with a Drew Canavan free kick and Brown was on hand to hammer the loose ball home.

The visitors strengthened their grip on the game after 28 minutes when Canavan set up Brian Smikle and his low shot from just inside the area beat keeper Andy Stevens.

However, the home side hit back rapidly and soon concelled out the advantage before the break.

First a scrambled effort from Nathan Fox after 35 minutes halved the arrears before Ryan Robbins beat Dean Coleman with a thumping shot six minutes later.

Undeterred, Stourbridge showed great resilience after the break to put that double blow behind them.

It was Brown again on 77 minutes who fired in what proved to be the winner after clever work from substitute Luke Benbow gave him the chance to finish past Stevens.

Stour will be without the injured Fitzpatrick and Exodusw Geohaghon this weekend, while Will Richards will serve the last game of a suspension.

Forwards Benbow and Brown should both be available.
