GORNAL Athletic boss Andy Wyton has backed goalkeeper Rich Kennedy after three mistake helped Sporting Khalsa seal title glory at Garden Walk last Saturday.

Khalsa won 3-0 to finally be crowned champions of the West Midlands Premier.

However, their task was made a little easier against the Peacocks due to a host of errors by the usually reliable Kennedy.

Wyton said: "We worked hard but Khalsa deserved to win the game over all.

"Credit must also go to them for the way they have won the league.

"There wasn't much between the two sides overall but we gifted them all three of their goals.

"The errors from our goalkeeper were unlike him. He is one of the best in this league and has been a major reason we are where we are.

"He has kept 14 clean sheets this season and must now forget about it a move on."

Wyton is targeting three points at home this Saturday against Shifnal Town and still thinks a second place finish is within reach.

"We have games in hand on Bridgnorth and can still get second place. They also lost last weekend so it is all still to play for," added the manager.

"If we are to finish second we have to bounce straight back against Shifnal."
