MANAGER Gary Hackett says he is determined to give Stourbridge fans something to cheer during the final home game of the season.

The Glassboys will welcome Buxton to the War Memorial Ground this Saturday as a difficult campaign draws to a close.

He said: "In light of what has been an underachieving season, the fans have been great.

"I would like to thank them for that. Yes there has been criticism but you have to expect that.

"In all, we have a magnificent group of supporters and our aim now is to give them a good performance for the last home game.

"My aim is then to give them even more to shout about next year. It is rare for me to want a season to be over but this has been one of them."

Stour now sit in a mid-table position in the Northern Premier League and are on a run of just one win in the last 14 league games, including a toothless showing against local rivals Halesowen Town on East Monday.

Hackett's men squandered a two goal lead at home to Marine last weekend when it looked like they were set to finally bag a much-needed victory.

"The result against Marine summed up our season, " added the boss. "We have been massively inconsistent throughout.

"We played some really good football at times and scored two good goals. However, we then let them back into a game that we should have closed out. In the past we would have.

"It was frustrating but again highlighted exactly what we need to improve about the side.

Hackett again expressed his willingness to freshen up the team ready for next season.

"I have learned a lot recently about the squad. It is clear that the spine of the side needs to be addressed," he added.

"We can't do anything at the moment but I will be changing things during the summer. You learn more about the team at times like this than when things are going well."

Hackett also said that he may be prepared to have a closer look at a few of the club's youth players during the final weeks of the season.

Again Marine, the Glassboys made four changes to their starting line-up. Lewis Solly replaced Dean Coleman in goal, whilst Will Richards returned for Leon Miles in the back line. Tyrone Williams and Josh Morgan-Parker also came in for Luke Benbow and the injured Matt Dodd.

After a goalless first half, quick-fire strikes from Drew Canavan and Chris Lait put Stourbridge in the driving seat. However, Lewis Codling’s double for the visitors denied the home side the win.
