BATSMAN Greg Wright says there is no reason Himley can't close the gap on the league's promotion places.

They continued their improved form with a seven wicket success over Wellington last Saturday.

"It was a really important win, " said Wright. "It is a very even division now and we are as far off promotion as we are relegation.

"We have give ourselves a lot to do but we are on a really good run, are playing well and must now focus on keeping that going.

"We are far from the finished article but have taken the pressure off ourselves a little. We are playing some good cricket and it is now up to us to maintain that and see if we can push towards the top of the table.

"Beating teams around us will be key to moving up the table. That is what we will be looking to do this weekend."

Himley immediately put pressure on their visitors who had elected to bat after winning the toss.

Opener Neil Edwards was removed by Elliot Hopkin for 26 before Ryan Brown brought Steve Lamb's slow innings to an end. He hit just eight runs from 43 balls.

When Arfan Khan had number three Jamie Miller caught for 29, wickets began to tumble.

Sam Lloyd (7), Wendell Wagner (3), Chris Sheperd (0), Trevor Garwe (0) all fell cheaply as Himley turned the screw.

Resistance came in the form of number eight Adam Byram (52) and number nine Anthony O'Connor (47 not out) to help their side to a total of 183.

Himley set about their chase in good fashion as openers Wright and Will Fraine put on 129 for the first wicket.

Wright top scored with 74 before falling to the bowling of Jamie Miller. However, Fraine remained unbeaten on 68 as Himley reached their goal in the 32nd over.

"We batted sensibly and got the job done," added Wright.

"I am enjoying batting with Will and it is the second week in a row that we have put over 100 on the board. It is a partnership that is paying dividends."

Himley will travel to Bromsgrove this Saturday.

Wright added: "Bromsgrove are a good side and they beat us earlier in the season. But it gave us a chance to have a look at them and we will be looking to do the right things again and put them under pressure."

Himley were knocked out in round two of the Staffordshire County Cup away at Porthill Park last Sunday.
