STOURBRIDGE boss Gary Hackett says the club are preparing to offer deals to a number of trialists who have impressed during pre-season.

The Glassboys have started their preparations for the new season with back-to-back friendly victories over AFC Bridgnorth and Bewdley Town.

Several trialists have featured heavily in both outings so far and have caught the eye of the Memorial Ground manager.

James Baldwin, James Hill, Jamie Insall and Nathan Hayward all started in the 2-0 away win at Bewdley on Tuesday night, whilst former Stafford Rangers man Tyree Clarke made his first appearance in the starting line-up. There was also an appearance up front late on for Tom Connolly.

One player who will be spoken to this week is forward Insall. He bagged the winner at Bridgnorth last Saturday.

While it isn't known exactly who else will be offered terms, Hackett said the club will be sitting down to speak to a number of the trialists before the weekend.

He said: "Pre-season has gone well so far. Everyone has been working very hard and to a very high standard.

"Another pleasing aspect is that fitness levels are all very good.

"The players we have brought into the squad to have a look at have all done very well.

"We will be sitting them down in a few days and seeing if we can negotiate deals.

"Jamie Insall is a goalscorer, you can see that already. He was with Redditch last season but maybe lost his way a little. However, it is clear he has that hunger back now and has done well."

Any new additions will add to summer arrivals Charlie Price, Kristian Green, Lee Chilton, Dan Scarr, Stuart Pierpoint and Tom Tonks.

Hackett also confirmed that this season's skipper will be summer recruit Stuart Pierpoint.

"Stuart is an experienced defender that will offer good leadership. He will also lead by example on the pitch," said Hackett.

"The players have already seen that he is a player that will put his head on the line for them."

The Glassboys will be in cup action this Saturday as they make the trip to former Southern League rivals Redditch United for the Worcestershire Senior Cup quarter-final (3pm).

The game will be played to a finish on the day, with penalties at the end of 90 minutes if the scores are level.

The winner will then travel to Aggborough next Tuesday to take on Kidderminster Harriers in the semi-final (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, this season's Northern Premier League fixtures are set to be released tomorrow.
