STOURBRIDGE'S Steven Pearce is set for a title rematch with Stafford’s Rob Hunt The contest was set-up after Hunt successfully overcome Sleaford's Amir Unsworth at the Chase Leisure Centre, Cannock, on Saturday.

Unsworth came in 2lb 4oz over the championship limit of 10st 7lb, meaning Hunt's Midlands Area Welterweight Title wasn't on the line. Regardless, defeat wasn't an option for the likeable Stafford scrapper.

With an obvious height advantage, Hunt worked off the jab with Unsworth jumping in to shorten the gap. The Sleaford man's danger shot was the overhand right and he caught Hunt in the second round. Hunt's legs appeared to stiffen but he recovered well and hit Unsworth with a number of stinging jabs.

Hunt continued to stab Unsworth with spearing jabs in the third and, with just 15 seconds of the round remaining, referee, Terry O'Connor, stepped in to halt proceedings. Hunt had opened a cut above Unsworth's left eye and had pinned his opponent against the ropes. It was another impressive display from the Stafford boxer which sets up a likely rematch with Pearce.

The pair met back in 2013. The Stourbridge man was successful on that occasion, stopping Hunt with a vicious body shot in the fifth round. Now, with Pearce being made mandatory challenger for the belt he held between March and May 2013, the duo are on a collision course to meet later this year. It's a fight that Hunt is happy to take.

"I'd fight Pearce again no problem," he said. "I was boxing his head off last time when he caught me with a good shot. That's boxing. I'm a better fighter now. I'm in the form of my life and if Pearce is who my manager, Errol Johnson, says I am. To fight; then bring it on."
