Redditch United 2, Stourbridge 1

Supersub Luke Shearer grabbed a last gasp winner to send Redditch United through to a Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final clash with Kidderminster Harriers.

The striker prodded the ball over the line a minute from the end of this Valley Stadium cup clash after the impressive Troy Baker had won possession and rolled the ball into the danger zone.

It was no more than Liam McDonald’s side deserved, the woodwork twice denying them with visiting keeper Charlie Price also pulling off a number of good saves.

Stourbridge started the better and opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Lee Chilton worked the ball out to Drew Canavan on the left and his looping cross was headed in at the far post by Jamie Insall.

But the lead lasted just three minutes. Jamey Osborne curled a free-kick against the upright and fellow summer signing Jordan Archer tucked away the rebound.

Jordan Cullinane-Liburd had already hit the Stourbridge upright and both Brown and George Carline were denied by saves – Brown having a first time shot pushed over the bar while Carline’s header from a corner was scrambled around the post.

The second half was a more even affair with good chances few and far between.

Another excellent Osborne free-kick forced Price into a diving save midway through the half before the visitors rattled the woodwork themselves through Junior Smikle after he had worked his way in behind the Reds defence.

It looked as though the game was heading for penalties until Shearer, who had replaced the injured Archer 25 minutes from time, grabbed the last gasp winner.
