OLD Hill continued their assault on the Birmingham League Division One title chase with a crushing 152 run win at Oswestry.

Around 70 supporters made the long distance trip to North Shropshire where they were rewarded with a wonderful Old Hill performance.

Inserted to bat first, Old Hill posted a highly competitive total of of 257 for eight, the innings being built around 18 year old Warwickshire prospect Hamza Ahmed who made 82 not out while skipper Dannyjo Cox cracked a further 47.

But it was the ageless left arm spin of Nigel Davenport who dealt repeated lethal blows to Oswestry's batting when they replied.

Davenport picked up matchwinning figures of six for 25 as Oswestry were soon removed for just 105 runs.

The accurate Davenport is now by far the leading wicket taker in Birmingham League Division One, increasing his tally for the season to 46 so far, 10 clear of closest rival Ed Denham from Walsall.

Skipper Dannyjo Cox claimed: "Nigel seems to be getting better. He's a very canny bowler and always tries to keep one step ahead of the batsmen."

Old Hill were boosted by the inclusion of Lancashire seam bowler Toby Lester who travelled down from the north of England to play.

Cox claimed: "Toby loves the club and will always turn out to play when he can providing he gets permission from Lancashire."

Old Hill have two successive home games, starting against fourth placed Smethwick on Saturday and then against third in the table Leamington the following week.

Cox believes the outcome of these two games could prove crucial to Old Hill's promotion drive and insists: "They'll be no let up. We'll be giving it everything to win!

The skipper also praised the large amount of supporters who followed them to Oswestry and said: "It was absolutely fantastic support. We filled the coach, but a good number of supporters made their own way to Oswestry, which is quite some distance.

"The support has been superb all season and I know the players really appreciate it."
