FRESH from being named both the Sunday Times and Sky Sports Disability Sportswoman of the Year this week, Halesowen's Jordanne Whiley missed out on a hat-trick at the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters title in California.

Jordanne and her Japanese partner Yui Kamiji were beaten in the final by the Dutch pairing of Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot.

The 23-year-old Jordanne is the first wheelchair tennis player to win the Disability Sportswoman of the Year award.

She learnt of the award an hour after coming off court with Kamiji after beating another Dutch double act Marjolein Buis and Michaela Spaanstra in the semi-finals.

It crowns a marvellous run of form which has seen Jordanne capture her first Grand Slam singles title at the US Open, her first Super Series singles title at the British Open and her first top four world singles ranking.

At the same time Whiley won two Grand Slam doubles titles when together with Kamiji, they retained their Australian Open and Wimbledon crowns.

Jordanne said: "It's an honour to win such a prestigious award.

"When I heard the news I'd won the Disability Sportswoman of the Year Award, it made a really great day for me."
