KEV Franklin secured victory over Alan Jeffries in the Stourbridge and District Snooker League’s singles handicap final.

Franklin, from West Mids Police, bagged a 3-0 win over his Kingswinford Cons rival at Amblecote Institute last weekend win the trophy for the fifth time in only the eighth year of the event.

Receiving 66 points start, Jeffries looked certain to take the opening frame until Franklin cleared the colours.

He then took the second frame on the pink and played well enough to force a concession in the third.

Meanwhile, in the three-a-side Handicap Final for the Charlie Randle Memorial Cup at Kingswinford Conservative Club, Baggeridge Social lost 269-234 to Amblecote Institute.

Conceding 18 points start, defending champions Baggeridge began well when Luke Whale opened up a 49-0 lead, taking the first 10 reds, but Sajid Latif fought back.

Mark Robson then played extremely well to beat Martin Collingridge 80-45, taking those crucial last three balls, to give Amblecote’s last player, Rick Wooldridge a 13-point advantage at the start of the final frame against Frankie Bennett. Wooldridge began well to establish a lead, and eventually forced a concession on the colours. Both teams deserve credit for reaching the final.

In the Team Knock-Out Handicap Cup Final at Stourbridge Institute, Stourbridge Old Edwardians (h/cap 178) beat Kinver Constitutional B (h/cap 124) 484-374.

This clash between the teams who had just won the First and Second Division championships in decisive fashion, saw Kinver take the early initiative, when Dean Banks held the prolific Chris Cowley to just six points while Wayne Whitmore led Harry Hall by 44. Hall then hit back with the last two balls to keep Old Eds 29 ahead on aggregate.

Old Eds then turned the match their way when Gavin Dunn beat Paul Churchman by 26, and Ed Davies beat Graham Tranter by 22, to give Dave Woodall a 77 point advantage against Keith Rollinson. Woodall quickly established a lead, and soon after Old Eds were able to celebrate the lifting of the cup.
