BLACK Country Triathletes held the club's popular sprint triathlon that saw more than 250 competitors swim, cycle and run against each other last weekend.

Athletes took to the pool, then their bikes before donning their running shoes last Sunday.

Despite the chilly conditions, some fast times were for the course were set.

The race consisted of a 400m swim, 20k bike followed by a 5k run and saw both experienced triathletes and novices to the sport compete across all age groups.

The overall race winners were Phil Wolfe, from Mammoth Lifestyle Racing Team, finishing in 54.35 for the men, with the ladies winner being BCT’s own Lauren Evans, who finished in 1.05.40.

Black Country Triathletes also took a number of the age group podium places with the junior ladies first place going to Gemma Evans and second place to Zoe Brickley.

Reece Ashfield took second in the Junior men's race and Morgan Paine finished third.

It was a family affair as Morgan’s mum came third in the ladies 40-49 age group with Chris Wood and Lee Moreton finishing second and third also in that age group.

Paul Rogers took first place in the male 50-59 age group with Sue Payton coming third in the ladies race, Keith Bate also taking first place in the male 60+ category with Leah Coles coming second.

Anyone who would like to enter the September Sprint race would also be invited to attend a novice training day in Wombourne on July 9 where club coaches will be on hand to offer advice and guidance.

Earlier this month, Black Country athlete Lee Moreton competed in the Ironman South Africa race in Port Elizabeth on the Eastern Cape, whilst his race didn’t go to the original plan he completed the long distance triathlon, consisting of a 2.4 mile sea swim, 112 mile bike leg and a marathon, in 11 hours and 39 minutes.
