HAGLEY’S push toward the top of Worcestershire County League Division One was halted by defeat against Burghill, Tillington and Weobley last Saturday.

Hosts Hagley lost by 36 runs after winning the toss and electing to field.

Their visitors, led by Ben Owens’ 72, ended their innings on 237-6.

Openers Joe Lennon and Simon Burgess both fell without scoring as Hagley toiled.

Eral Anderson, batting at four, top scored with 40 but couldn’t prevent his side being bowled out for 198.

The will look to hit back when Colwall visit Hagley Park this Saturday (1pm).

Meanwhile, Belbroughton suffered a seven-wicket defeat at Worcester Nomads as they were bundled out for 127.

The hosts made light work of the chase, Oli Swift smashing 63, as Belbroughton slipped into the bottom two.

They will now host Bewdley this Saturday (1pm).

Belbroughton seconds also went down to the same opponents. Batting first, the Tons achieved 240-8 from their 45 overs, Andrew Mackenzie (54) and Matt Harker (51) both contributing well. The visitors were able to chase the total six wickets down and with 10 balls to spare.

The thirds returned to winning ways as they chased 135 at table topping Cookley.

Bottom team Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social failed to build on last week’s win as they lost be three-wickets at Worcester.

They were bowled out for 160 despite David Hayward falling just three runs short of a half century.

Worcester reached their target for the loss of seven wickets by the 35th over.

Oldswinford and Stour Social will go to Pedmore this Saturday (1pm).

Pedmore will go into that game in good spirits after a 114-run win at Bewdley last Saturday.

Matthew Heberle top scored with 72 as Pedmore smashed 236-8 from their 50 overs.

They then bowled out their opponents for 122 to bag the points. Bowler Paul Taylor ripped through the top order on his was to a five-wicket haul for the loss of just 21 runs.

In division two, Lye bounced back to winning ways with success at home to Bredon.

They will welcome neighbors Enville this Saturday (1pm). Enville will want to hit back after a 48-run defeat against visitors Evesham.
