SKIPPER Richard Brooker is urging promotion-hopefuls Halesowen to get it right at Wombourne on Saturday after making hard work of their latest win.

Brooker's men remain in the hunt after a nervy one-wicket win over Old Elizabethans at the weekend.

The Big Pet Store-backed side reduced their opponents to 140 all-out with Brooker (3-21), Masharaff Shazad (3-24) and Dylan Ross Watt (2-33) among the wickets.

But their reply was hard work and they looked to have blown it at 89-7 before Tom Wickstead notched 13, Eddie Rhodes fired off an unbeaten 23 and Brooker bagged nine to see the side home.

“We got over the line in the end but my goodness we made hard work of it," said Brooker.

“On one hand I am proud to captain a side that never throws in the towel but on the other, our top order batsmen have once again been bailed out by the lower order.

“We have one grandstand week to go and we need to get it right, that’s all I’ll say.”

Meanwhile, the second team were defeated by league champions Wolverhampton at Danescourt on Saturday.

Put into bat in a 26-over game, Halesowen mustered just 127-7 on a seaming surface with a series of cameo knocks.

But Wolverhampton, who have been head and shoulders better than most sides in the division this year, raced to victory by eight wickets in 23 overs to secure their trophy.

The second team have a must-win game at home to Moseley this weekend which will decide whether or not they will stay in the Premier Division.

The thirds gave themselves a lifeline in the Worcester League with a win over Kidderminster and the fourths maintained third spot in the division with a nervy two-wicket victory over Ross on Wye.

The wickets were shared around with runs for up-and-coming left-hander Talha Iqlaq (42).
