BROMSGROVE cyclist Jess Varnish has called for the entire board of British Cycling to be ousted if it is shown they reversed the findings of an internal investigation.

Varnish accused ex-technical director Shane Sutton of using sexist language towards her when he told her of her release from the governing body’s elite programme.

Only one of her nine allegations against Sutton – that he used the word 'b******' – was upheld last year, and a draft version of the report has since been leaked to the Daily Mail.

The report accuses the board of “reversing” the findings of British Cycling director Alex Russell’s internal probe in an attempt to clear Sutton.

In an interview with BBC News, Varnish, who used to ride for Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club, said: “I’m not surprised.

"I had absolutely no faith in the investigation from the get go.

“I had been there for a long time and basically I had no faith in it whatsoever so unfortunately I’m not shocked by that.

“Now there needs to be changes. These people can’t be still in there if they’ve reversed facts. They can’t still be able to be on that board.”

Cycling Independent Review Panel, British Cycling and UK Sport expressed their disappointment that the report had been leaked before it was finalised.

They added no further comment would be made until the report was completed and published.
