STOURBRIDGE Lions continued their charge to the league title with an away win at sixth-placed Veseyans.

The clash in Midlands Two West (North) finished 34-17 in the Lions' favour to keep then four points clear at the top of the table.

The first half opened with a series of attacks from the home side which forced the Lions back, culminating in a try after five minutes.

The Lions re-grouped and Scotty Langdon crashed over after a series of rucks from a lineout and Will Fallows then finished off a sweeping move of slick passing from right to left shortly after.

Five minutes later came the try of the match with George Tildesley, fielding a clearance from the Veseyans 22 just into the Lions half, sliced through and round three tackles to leave the defence in his wake and score the Lions' third try.

The home side rallied and scored a penalty for 8-15 and then a try of their own almost on half-time to end the half just two points down.

The Lions settled the match and the bonus points with a try by Owen Williams a minute after the restart following another move down the right.

Shortly after Tildesley got his second try, again after a backs move, converted by Sam Vaughan.

Veseyans fought back for the next 15 minutes until the game was finished off with the sixth try and Langdon’s second, again converted by Vaughan.

The Lions returning to league action on Saturday March 25 when they entertain Camp Hill.

Away from the Lions, both the club's other amateur teams suffered narrow defeats as the Greyhounds succumbed 12-13 at home against Veseyans in the North Mids Reserve league, whilst the Grasshoppers lost a friendly 27-31 away at Essington against a mix of their seconds and thirds.
