OLD Hill captain Jonathan Wright admits consistency will be key as his side looks to mount a promotion charge in Division Two of the Birmingham and District Premier League.

The club are aiming to bounce straight back following last season's relegation but suffered an opening day defeat at Sutton Coldfield.

The home side posted 203-9 from their 50 overs after being put into bat by Wright.

Opposing skipper Lee Thomason's half century helped Sutton Coldfield to a competitive score but Aamir Manzoor's three wickets halted any late progress.

Old Hill's top order failed to fire in reply as they quickly fell to 59-7. Ravi Nagra's unbeaten 67 offered some resistance but he couldn't stop his side being bowled out 56 runs short.

Wright said: "We were disappointed because the week before we'd put in a really good performance at Wombourne in the National Knock-out Cup and went into the game high on confidence.

"The batting performance was disappointing but it's only early in the season and I do feel we have a really good side and a nice blend of youth and experience.

"The big challenge for us will be to find the consistency we need as a side.

"We have players of great ability but we aren't quite a team just yet that can show the durability we'll need. We need to learn when it's right to temper that attacking flair and dig in.

"Our ambition has to be to bounce straight back but that won't be an easy task because this is a division that is a little bit underrated. But we have recruited with the aim of going straight back up.

"It's going to be a long season and nothing is won or lost in the first game.

"We fell short of the high standards we set ourselves in pre-season and then at Wombourne but will be looking to put that right this Saturday."

Old Hill will welcome Coventry and North Warwickshire to Haden Hill (noon start).
