IT was another busy weekend for the Black Country Triathletes who were competing at various events at Upton-upon-Severn, Much Wenlock, Stratford and Eton Dorney.

On Saturday, a number of club athletes travelled to Upton to take part in both sprint and standard distance races some coming home with medals.

In the sprint race involving a 750m river swim, a 20km bike and a 5km run Lauren Evans came home first female overall in a time of 1.19.24.

Reece Ashfield was third male overall in a time of 1.08.00 and Oliver Evans finished 10th overall and first in the 15-16 age category in a time of 1.19.41.

In the standard distance race, involving a 1500m river swim, 40km bike and a 10k run, Thomas Dauncey was first home for BCT finishing in 2.20.50 and first in the seniors 2 25-29 age group.

Ian Langford was second home in 2.49.43, Jack Tibbetts followed finishing in 2.52.10, fifth in the 20-24 age group, his father John Tibbetts in 2.25.17, Ed Horgan in 2.52.33, Tim Smith in 2.55.28 and Mike Ellis in 3.02.32.

For the ladies, Sue Payton finished in 2.57.01 taking second place in the 55-59 age group, Louise Westbury in 3.04.33, Ersuline Whittle in 3.10.12 taking third in the 55-59 age group, Sarah Postles in 3.19.52 and Lorraine Gaytten in 3.23.32.

Some of the BCT junior girls also raced on Saturday at Shipton on Stour Aquathlon, with Alex Westbury, Abbie Kennard and Abi Hathaway taking first, third and fourth respectively in the TS2 category and Mia Hathaway winning the prize for best smile whilst racing in the TS3 category despite a long run.

Sunday saw athletes take part in triathlons at two Olympic venues Much Wenlock and Eton Dorney. Paul Rogers, Chris Pedley and Leighann Adams took part in the Wenlock Olympian Triathlon with a 500m pool swim, 19km bike and a 7km run.

Full race results are yet to be published but Rogers finished second overall and Pedley took second in his age group.

Samantha Paine travelled to Eton Dorney to the Olympic rowing venue to compete in the Shock Absorber Women Only Standard Distance Triathlon with a 1500m open water swim, 42.4km bike and a 10km run. Paine finished with a 20min PB for that distance in at time of 2.51.21.

Additional results from last weekend include Tom JC competed in the Ironman 70.3 in Edinburgh who, despite a couple of blow outs and being thrown from his bike, finished the race in 6 hours 50 minutes, while Leah and Cian Gopal and Zack Taylor also raced at Eton Dorney in the junior triathlon.
