STOURBRIDGE continued their fine start to the season with a derby win over Old Hill.

Stour skittled out their opponents for 115 at Haden Hill before reaching their target to record a five-wicket victory last Saturday.

Visiting captain Josh Banks won the toss and put Old Hill in to bat on a pitch hit by overnight rain. The match had to be curtailed to 50 overs per side instead of the 55 but Stour were quickly on the front foot.

Their bowlers made the most of the conditions on offer as Jitesh Jivan-Patel made the break through trapping Harry Baddams lbw for two. Number three Hassan Ahmed was caught and bowled by Nathan Crudeli with the score on 21.

There was more trouble to follow for Old Hill when Dan Such and Jivan -Patel bowled in tandem.

Such had opener Zain Shahid lbw for 14 as he took the first of his six-wicket haul.

It was Such that made light work of the home side's tail as Stour took control.

Old Hill skipper Jonathan Wright opened with the dangerous attack of Naqaash Tahir and Zahid Kafiat.

Kafiat managed to make early headway to bag the wickets of Harshad Patel, Jujhar Johal and Matt Bradley.

However, Marvarick Perry unbeaten 37 was enough to see his side comfortably home.

Banks was pleased with the win that keeps Stour in second in Division Three of the Birmingham and District League.

He said: "It was a big toss to win, especially with the rain around.

"Dan Such bowled really well and just bowled line and length on a sticky pitch. We also worked hard and were fairly disciplined.

"We probably gave them 20 runs too many but we did hold our catches, which is something we've been doing well.

"They've got a good seam attack but we handled it and once again Mavarick made it look easy.

"Confidence is high at the moment but we just need to keep our feet on the ground and keep working."

Stour will now welcome Lichfield to the War Memorial Ground this Saturday (noon start).

That will be followed by their clash at Nantwich in round three of the National Knockout Cup.
