GORNAL Athletic have appointed Lee Farrington as the club's new chairman.

Farrington takes over from Kevin Williams who had held the position since 2013 and who will remain as a director of the club.

The new chairman has previously been involved with non league football, having been associated with Cradley Town.

He said: "I am really passionate about football and have come to Gornal determined to drive the club forward and to make it into a real success on the pitch, something I know that the directors and supporters are desperate to make a reality.

“We need to re-energise the club, provide the supporters with a successful team and academy and bring the missing spectators back to Garden Walk.

“I will be taking personal control of the commercial activities of the club and to help generate the finances that we feel will be necessary to mount a promotion challenge next season.

“I have been thrilled and honoured to be asked to become chairman of Gornal Athletic and with the imminent appointment of a new manager, I am convinced that we can take the club to the next level and to sustain our position higher up the non league system."
