HIMLEY will look to bounce back from defeat against basement boys Wellington when league leaders Tamworth visit this Saturday.

Captain Greg Wright's men were bowled out for just 62 after losing the toss in difficult conditions at Orleton Park last weekend.

Early wickets from Adam Finch couldn't prevent the visitors slipping to a disappointing seven-wicket loss and dropping to fifth in division one.

However, the skipper won't dwell on the defeat after conditions had a big say in his side's unexpected struggle with the bat.

He said: "I don't attribute any blame to Wellington or their ground staff at all because they got hit by a storm the night before and worked really hard on the pitch.

"But it was soaked and it made the toss even more important than the week before.

"I don't think either side realised how important the toss would be otherwise we'd have delayed the start.

"However, to a man, we've then battled really hard and have stuck at it and did everything we could. We batted for 40-odd overs for 62 runs, which is crazy really.

"They bowled well in helpful conditions and then the sun came out and they got the roller on it and we were never in it.

"That's the way it goes sometimes and all we can do is move on quickly.

"We've not played the perfect game yet but we're not far off bringing our A game. With a little more luck with the toss in the last two weeks we could have been top ourselves."

Finch's contribution adds to a fine start to the season for him personally. The pace prospect was called up to the Worcestershire first team squad a day later in preparation for their one-day victory over Northampton.

Attention now turns to the clash with Tamworth this Saturday (noon start).

Himley are set to be without key trio Chris Boroughs, Callum Lea and wicketkeeper Jack Whittaker.

"We'd prefer to be at full strength against one of the best sides in the league but their absence gives someone else a chance," added Wright.

"We're a good side and need to back ourselves."

Meanwhile, Himley have now turned to explosive batsman Sheham Fernando as their overseas player this campaign.

A move for the Sri Lankan comes after a proposed deal for Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare fell through.

Tare was initially drafted in after Nipun Karunanayake's return was halted due to his involvement with the Sri Lanka A tours.

A third attempt to secure an overseas star will hopefully see Fernando arrive within the next two weeks.
