STOURBRIDGE fencer Emma Potter clinched her second win of the year at the Slough Sabre.
Following her success at the Cambridge Open last month, the Stourbridge Fencing Club star grabbed gold at the tougher Slough event.
But it was a disappointing day for the other Stour members, with Peter Baron finishing back in 18th in the men’s event and Steve Potter 22nd.
There was better news for Baron at last weekend’s inaugural Hampshire Veterans event, where he claimed bronze in the men’s sabre.
His wife and fellow Stour member Janet Baron enjoyed even more success, taking gold in the women’s epee.
After a moderate start she made her way to the semi-final without much trouble, where she met a fencer she had lost to earlier in the day.
But this time it was a much more comfortable passage with a 10-3 victory taking Baron to the final where she met Sue Hanney.
The Stour fencer built up a comfortable lead only to have it clawed back to 9-9 just before time expired. Baron won priority in the extra minute and with the onus on Hanney to score, a desperate attack failed and Baron was able to pick off the winning hit.
In Sunday’s open event, Peter Baron finished a creditable eighth, with Janet going out in the last 16.
